MVPA60HK Indicator
The Indicator has a target towards 2030,that is, to double the percentage of children and youth who engage in MVPA60, increasing it from the current 8% to 16%.
MVPA60 refers to the recommendation from the World Health Organisation (WHO) that children and youths aged 5-17 should accumulate at least an average of 60 minutes daily of moderate-to vigorous-intensity physical activities across the week.
InspiringHK Sports Foundation (IHKSports) launched the public education initiative “SportsHour” in 2017, aiming to promote the achievement rate of MVPA60 among children and adolescents in Hong Kong. Since 2019-20, with the support of our lead advocacy partner, CTFE Social Solutions, we have commissioned our research partner, Professor Patrick Ip and his team from the Department of Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at the University of Hong Kong to conduct a territory-wide longitudinal study on the physical activity levels of primary and secondary school students — the “SportsHour Participation Index – Primary and Secondary Youth Research”. The research results are published annually to help the public understand the rate of children and youth meeting the WHO-recommended MVPA60 standard.

In 2025, IHKSports has officially launched the “MVPA60HK Indicator” and will continue to track the physical activity levels of children and adolescents in Hong Kong. The initiative sets a bold goal: to double the percentage of children and youth who engage in MVPA60, increasing it from the current 8% to 16% by 2030.

The main components of “SportsHour” include the “MVPA60HK Indicator”, “SportsHour Family”, “SportsHour School”, and “SportsHour Company”. We have also created interactive fitness board games, picture books inspired by athletes’ stories of resilience, and creative sports challenge mission cards. to promote participation in various SportsHour activities across different sectors.
